DataFormatString issues

I am trying to format a date that is pulled into my
datagrid. It was working but now its not. Now its just
showing it as the default datetime format you get in a
grid. i really don't understand why.See my code below.

any help really appreciated.
<Columns>
<asp:BoundColumn DataField="Date" HeaderText="Date"
DataFormatString="{0:d}"></asp:BoundColumn>
....
</Columns>
