Sendkeys and modifier keys

Hi,

I'm using SendKeys to send text to other applications. My problem is
that the text sent is affected from the status of SHIFT keys and CAPS
LOCKS keys. For example, if the caps lock key or the shift keys are
down I get all the text uppercase. If the ALT key is down I don't get
any text at all. How can I make the text sent independent on the
keyboard status?
Thanks.
