Developing in C# for Exchange 2000

I've written an event sink for Exchange 2000 in managed code, but have
found problems now I've come to test it.

My Exchange box needs upgrading to SP3 so I can install the Exchange SDK
tools needed to hook up the event sink. I've just noticed the SP3
documentation states that Exchange SP3 can't be installed on a server
running .Net...

I was planning on having the component I've written running on the
Exchange 2000 server. Obviously if Exchange 2000 and .Net are
incompatible this isn't going to happen.

Is it possible to run the managed component with with event sink on
another server and hook it up? Or will upgrading to windows server 2003
and exchange 2003 be a better option? Or am I totally mistaken, can I
safely install .Net v1.1 on my Exchange 2000 server after I've upgraded?

Any comments are welcome.
Thanks in advance.
