but it's actually a method of BaseDataList - but for all practical purposes
you are correct.
I'm not sure specifically what you want to know practically speaking - in a
WebForms scenario - settting a datasource w/out calling databind = squat .
In Winforms it will in fact do the binding but in WebForms, if you don't
call DataBind() nothing will happen from a UI perspective.
If you are looking for more technical nuance though - let me know and I'll
elaborate.
