propertyGrid UITypeEditor and SelectedObjects

I have some custom type editors that are working fine when a single object is
selected. But, when several are selected (i.e. SelectedObjects is used), when
the EditValue method of the custom type is called, it's passed a null for the
value.

How can I find what the value was supposed to be, or at least one of the
values that would have been passed if a single object had been selected?
