Problem with C# and Windows Media Encoder

Recently I tried installing the Windows Media Encoder SDK 9.5. Big mistake
:-(, it's only got C++ support at this time and seems to have caused me a
problem with my code, as well as refusing to roll back properly.

I had it working fine - reading media files and converting them to WMVs.
After installing this pack though, the encoder seems to have switched to some
'realtime' mode where it drops frames to maintain a 1.0x speed while
encoding. Just wondered whether there was some hidden switch I have triggered
either with my code or this update that would make the encoder libraries work
in this mode.

Don't make my mistake, WME 9.5 isn't for us yet!
