VisualC# Standard Users?

After installing VisualC# Standard, DX9 will not install the debugger. Any
other users of C# Standard have similar problems?

PS: I ran the complete VStudio .net trial for 60 days and DX9 installed
fine.

Have not played with Standard, but it is really designed for learning more
than serious development. You CAN develop with it, but the product is so
crippled. Just my two cents (not sure if it is the issue with DX9, but it is
possible).

Fortunately, you can type in source and command line compile where the IDE
fights you. Not much of a consolation, but it does get you around what the
learning (er, Standard) edition does not want you to do.

I posted in here a couple months ago (before purchasing) and asked about
whether the Standard version was the same as the full version, the replies
said yes. The only features that are missing concern some web development
and there of course are no multi language options. The IDE is the same as
the full trial I used except for the C++, VB and Visual-J languages.

The 1rst time I installed this Standard version, DX9 installed and worked
fine. After several weeks I had some other software do bad things and it
was time to install XP fresh. Since then DX9 will NOT install everything
into VStudio-C#. I have installed XP several times fresh and it has made no
difference. I have really gone the extra mile trying to find out why this
is happening and I have no idea. I am stuck! I cannot debug DX apps but
they compile fine and I have full references to the libs, just no debugger
and no debugger options for DirectX.

Thank you, Larry.

I've not ran into the DX9 problem with my C# install, but
have had other problems. When I've installed XP again,
then I had to do a complete uninstall of C# and delete
any residual folders (be sure your projects are safely
stored away). Do a clean reboot and delete all temporary
tables in the windows/temp directory. Then do a clean
reboot again. This gave me a fairly level field to start
from again and things go on fine (it's a lot of work, but
it works).

I deleted everything and reinstalled XP-Pro clean. I formatted C:,
formatted my partition that I use only for the swap file, and I always have
my projects saved to zip and CD. Believe me, I have tried everything I can
think of to get DX9 to install with C# Standard. I am hoping that somebody
has just one idea that will work as I am stuck, I mean stuck.

I emailed DirectX at Microsoft, no reply. I posted in all the DX
newsgroups, no ideas. I cannot program any further in my gaming projects
because I can't debug DirectX. Stuck. My gosh, at this point I would be
willing to pay for the one idea that would install DX9 debugger! A prize of
maybe a gift certificate at Amazon.com. I need help and I don't mind
begging here... ;-)

What version of DirectX are you installing, I installed the 2004 update and
all went in fine. (VS 2003, and VC# std on different machines).

Are the other sections of the DX SDK Installed, check you program files
directory under the start button and see what was installed.

Also make sure that you uncompress the install, and run the setup from the
command line, you can set options on the setup.exe file to record and log the
progress of the install, this should tell you if there are problems.

DirectX 2004 Summer.

Everything is installed except the debugger that runs in Services and the DX
debugging options inside VStudio.
Also make sure that you uncompress the install, and run the setup from the

the
progress of the install, this should tell you if there are problems.

I had a log file created and it shows that there should be a directory for
Managed Extensions under Program Files\Common\... and it is not there. No
errors, it's just not created and the file DXDebugService.exe inside the
directory of DirectX Extensions is not copied, along with the 2 dll's.

This is in the log file and I don't understand:
Property(C): UTILITIES_DIRECTX_EXTENSIONS = C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\DirectX Extensions\
Property(C): UTILITIES_DIRECTX_EXTENSIONS_1033 = C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\DirectX Extensions\1033\
Property(C): UTILITIES_DXDEBUGEXTENSIONS_2003 = E:\DX9
2004\Utilities\DirectX extensions for Visual Studio .NET 2003\
Property(C): UTILITIES_DXDEBUGEXTENSIONS_2003_1033 = E:\DX9
2004\Utilities\DirectX extensions for Visual Studio .NET 2003\1033\
Property(C): UTILITIES_DXDEBUGEXTENSIONS_2004 = E:\DX9
2004\Utilities\DirectX extensions for Visual Studio .NET 2004\
Property(C): UTILITIES_DXDEBUGEXTENSIONS_2004_1033 = E:\DX9
2004\Utilities\DirectX extensions for Visual Studio .NET 2004\1033\
Thanks for your input, Larry.
