Handling <Delete> key clicks

I've got a menu button which gets fired everytime the user clicks the
<Delete> key. Depending on what is currently selected on the screen, the
delete action performs different types of deletions. One is these occurs
when the user is editing a node's text within a TreeView's node.

My question is this: since the menu is capturing the delete event, the text
is not being deleted when the key is pressed. How can I programmatically
fire off the delete event so that the functionality occurs within the
TreeView's node?

Cheers, Jon
