have to buy the license. In VB 6 they give you a try it
license and then you develop a huge application or small
one and find out you don't have rights to use the
control. You have to contact the manufacturer of the
control--MS may not be the manufacturer, in the original
VB 6 docs it told you who to contact. Then you must pay
them what they are asking, some are a one time fee and
some have royalties per install.
Have fun.

Hi,
I am currently working on a windows C# baggage scanner application that usesthe mscomm activex control for reading scanner input from the com port.
I have installed Vistual Studio 6 to get the control and included it in myVisual Studio .Net 2003. This works fine on the developer computer.
However, when the application is installed on another computer (testcomputer) I get an exception about a license problem with the mscommcomponent. I have an msdn professional license. Do I need a special licenseto distribute the mscomm component with my application, and if so, how do Iget it and install the component correctly on the test computer/customercomputer?
I am aware of Knowledge Base-arcitle - 318597
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318597). Am I allowed to install theregistry fix on any computer, as long as I have the developer license? Andcan I redistribute the mscomm component also with my application?
Thank you.
