What is the difference between ASP.Net and DotNet ?

Sometimes authors are writing in their articles just about DotNet other refer to ASP.NET
Is there a difference or just a different name for the same ?

..NET is the 'framwork' that ASP.NET runs on top of.. Essentially .NET is
the runtime whereas ASP.NET is a specific technology that runs on that
runtime
