Still Having Problems with VS.NET 2003

Hi all,

I'm still having problems with VS.NET 2003 running on my XP machine. I
finally decided I might as well uninstall completely and reinstall from
scratch. But lo and behold it won't let me uninstall... It gets stuck
about 2/3rds of the way through the uninstall (based on the progress bar)
and hangs for a very, very long time (a few hours last time). Then it seems
to give up and returns an error message stating that it cannot uninstall.

Anyone have any ideas on how to uninstall? It also hangs when trying to
reinstall on top of the current installation. I have reinstalled all of the
pre-requisites from scratch, but that didn't seem to help either.

Thanks,
Michael C.

Sounds like you might be a candidate for the manual uninstall procedure.

It sounds like you might have bigger issues at hand. When was the last time
you checked your hard drive for errors/defrag/spyware/viruses? Any one of
those things could cause the problems that you are currently having.

Question of the day:
What is Mono?
A) Disease where the lymph nodes become swollen.
B) A single sound
C) A synonym for one
D) A port of .NET meant to royally irritate MSFT
E) All of the above.

Have Symantec AV running constantly in the background - even now. Have run
spyware programs and found nothing. Also running Symantec Firewall.

Thanks,
Michael C.

Michael,

Are you running Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum Suite by any chance?

I have had problems that I tracked down to this one (v1.22) - it was a bit
overzealous with its registry cleaning with VS.NET. 2003.

It did succumb to 'repairing' from the CDs though, and didn't need
un/reinstalling in my case.

You know, now that you mention it, I did run a registry cleaner which might
have wiped out more than was required of it. Not the one Ashampoo version,
but that's an excellent lead.

Thanks,
Michael C.

Michael,

"> Have Symantec AV running constantly in the background - even now.

Now I remember! My original attempts took ages to install . . . and fail.
As also did subsequent 'repairs' 'till I remembered to turn the bugger
off - voila!

Worth a try . . .

Thanks for the feedback - I figured it was time to upgrade Hard Drives
anyway (only 4 GB left on the current one and the system's running slow
anyway). So I bought a larger HDD and reinstalled everything from scratch.
Had a lot of other junk on there anyway I needed to get rid of.

Thanks,
Michael C.
