Hi,
Have you added or changed any of the extension mappings for IIS defaults or
for the specific root your app is starting in?
I had a problem whereby I needed ASP.NET to process requests for JPG, GIFs,
HTM, HTML files.
In order to do this I had to add extension mappings between them and the
ASP.NET DLL.
VS when it attempts to create/open a web app writes temporary files to the
location of the web site.
If you have mapped any of these to anything else then it fails with some
unhelpful message.

When I try to create a new ASP.NET webapplication (in Visual
Studio 2003) or try to open an existing one, I get the following
error-message :
'The webserver reported the following error when attempting to
create or open the Web project located at the following URL
'http://localhost/WebApplication01 Unable to connect to the
server'.
But I know IIS is running, because I can start an existing
WebApplication by typing its URL in the browser,
for example 'http:/localhost/MyWebApp'.
Who can tell me how to solve this problem ?
