Nested groups

I have a need for a non-recursive technique to determine whether a user is a member of a specified group or any of its nested sub-groups

I have read some of the posts regarding enumerating members of groups and nested groups but as far as I can tell, all loop through enumerations of groups and manually recurse through nested groups to produce their lists.

My requirement is simpler - given a user name and group name, just return true if user is a member of that group or any subgroups (nested to any level) or false otherwise

Is there a simple way to achieve this without looping and recursion? My solution needs to be pretty fast, hence the desire to avoid a lot of looping and recursion. In my ideal world there would be something like a "group.IsMember(username)" method provided by the .Net Framework somewhere but if it exists I haven't found it

Thanks
Andrew.
