No overwrite for uploads

I am trying to make a web application that uploads a file. I was
wondering what code I should add to prevent overwriting a file with
the same name. for example if a file named file1 is already uploaded,
a message should be displayed when trying to upload another
file1.(This is to make file names unique so no overwrite can be done.)
