Using GDI+ To Create a Media Application

Hello,
I want to create an application that can be hooked up to a TV
display to do home theatre type functions. Things like play mp3
music, view photos, play avi's, display weather reports and news, etc.

Mainly the interface is mostly text based but I want it to
look slick. Use transparancy and custom images. I had read all of
the GDI+ tutorials but they all deal with simply drawing rectangles
and circles.

Is there a site or book that I can get that explains the steps
and techniques to use to create a fullscreen application where the
interface is completely custom drawn? I have yet to find something
that explains the process of doing something like this. And example
would be that I am trying to make an application like myHTPC located
at http://myhtpc.net/.

Mainly I do not need the PVR capabilities and do not like the
way it presents the music and photo viewing. I would like to build a
GUI like this but dont even know where to start. You can look at the
photo archive on the site to see what they are doing.

I thank you for your time and assistance.
