Fixing IIS

[Curious George]

I had a partial hardisk error and I now find that my IIS Admin service will
not start.

What is the best way to restor this without messing up all my web projects?

Oh boy...
I would:
1) run chkdsk
2) uninstall and then reinstall IIS ( if you have a saved
copy of the IIS Metabase, that can sure help)
3) Run AspNET_RegIIS -c to remap ASP.NET

Your options aren't many... in order:

Restore from disk image (using something like Norton Ghost)
Restore from tape backup (I assume, from your question, that you have no
backups, so...)
Reinstall IIS.
Reinstall Windows.
Reformat and Reinstall Windows.

Now you know why the first two are so compelling.
