Problem with DropDownList and DataSet.

P: n/a

Hi All,

Please bear with me on this, I'm not 100% sure I know how to ask this
clearly.

I have a Web Application that I'm trying to keep the items you can select in
a DropDownList in a collection. -- This works fine, until I want to update
that value with a field that's in a dataset that is populated from a SQL
database.

When I set the binding to the dataset, the results are not consistent. most
of the time the only item available in the dropdown is the item in the
dataset, sometimes I get a weird situation where a selection that should be
"Windows" comes up as 7 selections, "W", "i", "n", "d", "o", "w", & "s".

I think the dest method would be to check the value of the field in the
dataset, then based off the value I could set the SelectedIndex of the
dropdown list.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any samples to read the contents of a
certain field in a dataset without using the GUI properties to bind to a
dataset and a value in that dataset. Anyone care to tell me how to do this
by hand?

I apprecate any help you can give, I'm a frustrated newb with 8 different
books on C#, databases with C#, and ASP.Net and none have anything close to
this.
