required memory

Hi!

If I create a sample application(Vs.Net, C#) (GUI or Console), and I run it,
it uses about 8-10 MB-s of Ram. Then I minimize its window, and so it uses
only a few hundred of kilobytes. After maximizing it again, it uses only 1-2
MB-s. (in case of console application it keeps using a few hundred
kilobytes)
What may be the reason?

Why use applications much more memory, if 1-2 MB-s are enough as well?

Thanks in advance!
