Pulling in null from CSV file

Hello,

I have a column which majority of the time the data in it is numeric.
There are instances where it can be alpha-numeric and that is why i kept
that column as a string. Without getting into too much detail, i have a
csv file with the data and an xsd file with the schema for the dataset.
When i query the data from the csv file, any alpha-numeric values for
this one particular column are null in the dataset, but the rest of the
numeric values are in the dataset. The column type of the dataset is
string. If i change the data and remove the alpha characters, then i get
all my numeric values, but the column is still a string columns, so the
data shouldn't matter. I was wondering if anyone ran into this and if
any solutions.

thank you
