Problem for offline data storage

Dear All,

I would like to ask, in my program, i would like to save some custom
settings for the users. Next time when the user load the progam, they will
see the settings that he/she has made before. For example, image that i am
writing a ftp client, which allows user to add their favorite ftp site in my
program, and next time that user start the ftp client again, they can see
their favorite ftp site.

I was thinking to write those settings into a text file, and for each time
the program starts, the text file will be read to load those settings. But i
don't like this implementation as people can easily open the file and
corrupt it.

can anyone suggest that how and where can i store those custom settings?
what is the most common practices to deal with this problem.

Thank you.

Regards,
Casgo
