web reference question

Hi,

i am trying to use a test web service to see how it works.
when i try to add a test web reference, i search for provider 'microsoft'
and i get a number of possible webservices, one of which is a HelloWorld
service.

Service Description:
This is a simple hello world service.
Bindings:
Access Point:
http://localhost/AnyStream/Interop.asmx
Description:
This is a simple hello world service.

Interface definitions:
http://localhost/AnyStream/Interop.asmx?WSDL
but when i click the interface definitions link, i get the error:
"There was an error downloading
'http://localhost/AnyStream/Interop.asmx?WSDL'.
The underlying connection was closed: Unable to connect to the remote
server."

can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong?

kind regards,
Bruno.

Hello,

In IE, can you browse to the link?

http://localhost/AnyStream/Interop.asmx

If not, you check the IIS on your computer to see if it work correlty.

Hi,

No I can't browse to the link?
you mean i need to have IIS installed locally in order to do web
development?

does this also mean that all computes that want to run an application
need to have IIS installed or not? I suspect that this is for development
purposes only>

kind regards,
Bruno.

Hi Bruno,

To use a web service, we first need to locate its server. From the
information:

http://localhost/AnyStream/Interop.asmx

The web service is on your localcomputer ( "localhost" means local
computer.). Therefore, I suggested you check this first.

Normally, we don't need IIS on web service client side. For server side of
NET web service, we need IIS and .NET framework installed.

I don't think this web service is on my computer, but i don't really
understand why this should be.
when i tried to add a web reference, i selected 'microsoft test web
services' and provider 'microsoft'
I then get a number of references, from which i try to select 'MyHelloWorld'

If the service is not provided by microsoft, could you please tell me how it
can be installed on my development PC?
is it part of Visual Studio?

kind regards,
Bruno.

Hi Bruno,

If you have VS.NET installed, you may create a web service on your computer
as following:
