Application v.s Webforms

Jax
What is the main differences between the two?
I am an application programmer and have no problems in setting programs up
and getting them to do what I want, but when it comes to ASP.NET I seem to
be completely clueless I keep getting errors for object not set to instance
of object and so forth.

Yes I am initializing my objects by if(IsPostBack!=true) but it seems
sometimes they have to be set when post back isn't true but if I initialize
in both instances nothing ever happens because everything is a brand new
object.

At the moment i'm trying to use a timer , i've tried an instance member but
that isn't working so i've tried(see above error) to use a static timer
from another class, but whenever it runs on the method i have hooked up to
the elapsed event it only seems to run a couple of lines of code before my
breakpoint just jumps out of it??? Which is odd.....

Anyway regardless of this i'm not asking anyone to fix my problem (be nice
if they could though) i'd just like to get my hands on documentation or a
tutorial helping application developers get into ASP.NET pointing out the
major differences and what it is that I need to be keeping an eye on as i'm
completely lost it would seem.

Many thanks go out to any help given.
