Progress bars for Sql tasks? Probably need MS help??

Hi,

I'm looking into various options for a fairly simple
backup utility for our application.

I have no problems being able to backup, find restorable
backup files, and restore then. What I'd like to be able
to do is hook into some event in Sql that would allow me
to show progress of these tasks.

I'm considering all different options, and have looked at
the Sql DMO stuff. It looks okay, but the only reason
for picking it would be the ability to use progress bars
with it. I don't consider that to be a good enough
reason.

I have also looked at SqlMaint, but that doesn't appear
to allow any hooking into with progress bars.

So, is there anyone who would know how I might get a
progress bar to react to the progress of a task, such as
a backup, restore, or whatever, without using SQL DMO?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Cheers,

Martin.
