Designer and Static properties

I have a class that inherits from System.Windows.Forms.Label. The
background image for my class is drawn using a bitmap as a template.
Every instance should use the same bitmap (so I'm thinking static
variable). I would also like to set the template used to draw the
background using the form designer (so now I'm thinking static property)
as well as through the app.config file (for those keeping score, it's
now a dynamic static property:). Apparently that's too greedy on my
part as properties declared as static don't show up in the designer
property grid.
What's plan B?
