Hyperlink vs bound column

HELP!
I have an application that will allow the info in my database to be
dispalyed, edited and deleted using the built in functions in Visual
studio .net

The way it edits is that when you press the edit button all the cells of
that row turn into textboxes and then I make the neccessary additions
and save and it works. The problem is if I have an email address in the
displayed table using a hyperlink instead of a bound column then it
refuses to update. I get a specified cast is not valid error. Please
does anyone know what could be the problem, I really want the datagrid
to have mailto email column instead of copy and paste the email to an
outlook window.
