Serial keys

Hiya,

I'm trying to look into creating a serial-key format for some future work and I
would like to get some hintes, tips, suggestions and idea on how to do this
kind of stuff.

I have a pretty straightforward idea about taking

2 bytes productid
4 bytes licenseid
X bytes expiredate (sideof datetime structure)
4 bytes crc

take the 2+4+X and konvert them into a bitarray. work some magic on them
(any suggestions on what kind of magic?) .. caluclate a CRC on the result of
the magic.. append the crc .. perhaps cypher it .. konvert it back to a readable
format..

I have also been thinking on including some kind of asymmetrikal (RSA perhaps)
cryptography to encrypt my keys with and use the public key to decrypt them?

Also, any idea on how to prevent the old "setting back the system time" workaround? =)

All comments, suggestions, articles, etc about this is gladly accepted =)
