I want to access a Magellan 8100 scale/scanner in c# but I can't find any
way to access the COMx ports in c#.

This is the only way I know of:

Compile his VB.Net source into an assembly and then use it from C#. I've
done that and it works.

Check out this user sample for a C# SerialPort class on the GotDotNet Web
site:

Read through the user posts as there are some reported bugs. This class is
reportedly going to be similar to what Microsoft will ship with the next
release of the .NET framework.

I've heard of nothing specific, just that serial comm would be available in
the next release of the framework. The reference I found that suggests the
SerialPort class from the GotDotNet site would be similar to the upcoming
release came from this post:
