What's all this WndProc stuff?

I've dealt with inheriting classes and overriding methods etc., but I keep
seeing loads of examples that override WndProc, such as

What's this all about? The code looks pretty nasty, but there are so many C#
examples out there writing things this way, I'm sure I'm missing something
rather huge.... What is it, and why doesn't it look sick and low-level?
