Computational Cluster with C# and .Net

I have an application that is computationally intensive. It will read and
process a DB/2 database containing over two million records. My initial
design was to build the application using C++, MPI and a Linux cluster.
However, rather than invest in the hardware and software to do this, I was
wondering about the feasibility of building it in C# (which I also know).
The application could be distributed across our 500 Windows 2000 PC's and
run as a screensaver at lunch and night.

Has anyone written an application such as this and can speak about some of
the issues surrounding .Net security (particularly in storing confidential
information on a potentially unsecure desktop - ie, encryption), DB/2
database performance in .Net, etc.

Thank you in advance,
JJ Lay
