Creating a dockable form or pane in an MDI form

Hello,

i am looking for some advice on how to create a form or pane that is
dockable/undockable to the right side of an MDI parent form, while
allowing new
windows to be displayed "freely" on the right side of the MDI form
(i.e. undocked and movable).
I basically want to have a tree view on the left of the MDI form that
can be locked or free floating.
Thanks much

Farseer,

You can try to use a panel, than you can dock it inside that, with a spitter
you can even size it.

If i use a splitter in the MDI, that would mean that i could have free
form child windows on the right though, correct? i think any forms
opened in an mdi w/ a splitter automatically sizes to one of the panes.

I need to add 2 or 3 dockable windows to an app, but I can't seem to find anything that will do this. Am I missing something simple, or do I need to write my own dockable class? Tony

I sent this post out a couple weeks ago and received no response, so I'll try again... I'd like to create a windows MDI in VS 2005 C# that will allow child windows to have the same options and behave similarly to those within the Visual Studio 2005 development environment. 1. In VS, if you right-click on any window, you can select between "Floating", "Dockable", "Tabbed Document", "Auto Hide", and "Hide". How can I get my child forms...

Is there any code available that will let me drag a tab page so it forms its own separate form? I was using Photoshop and they have these tab controls where the tab page can be physically dragged out of the tab control so it forms its own form. So each tab page would be a stand-alone form. Can this be done in C#? BTW, is this a dockable tab control? Thanks.

Hello, All, I'm looking for information on how to create dockable forms. Basically, I'm writing a .NET application and instead of using C# (I want to refresh my C++ skills) I'm going to use C++. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can direct me to online resources or even a good book that gives an overview on how to create dockable forms.

I would like to create a Visual Basic .NET add-in that has a dockable form like the Solutions Explorer or the Properties Window. I have seen classes like CommandBars and others to add UI to the add-in, but I have not found a way to make a custom dockable form in my add-in. thanks in advance, -eric (paitz_eric@bah.com)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could point me to info on the best way to create a dockable window. I have seen plenty of posts about dockable controls that run within windows but I want the actual main window to dock, probably to the taskbar. I'd like it smart enough to adjust position if the taskbar height is increased or decerased.

I want to be able to produce a floating dockable toolbar like in the visual basic 2005 interface. I know how to get a toolbar to dock to the sides of a form, but there are instances where I want to have the toolbar floating in the middle of the form. Does anyone know how this can be achieved please. Thanks in advance for newsgroup feedback.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
