IE control in form and popups / hotpots

A puzzle...

hmmm, we have firewall software on our laptops so that when the laptop
is in 'remote mode', i.e. out of the office, internet explorer is only
allowed to go to our company remote working site, and not browse the
internet at will... this is fine except when they are at a wireless
hotspot etc. where a the browser is redirected to a payment screen
(which is then blocked by the firewall).

My solution to this was to write an application (RW) containing a form
with the IE control embedded in it. This way, we can tell the firewall
to allow the RW application to go to any web site (since the IE control
instance is seen as RW.exe, not IE.exe), and hence redirected payment
screens work, and the user still cannot browse where they want because
there is no address bar (which is what we want).

This all works like a dream, BUT, we have now come across some hotspots
/ hotels where after the payment screen, a popup appears containing a
countdown timer. The popup is seen as IE.exe and not RW.exe and hence
is blocked. So the question is, how can I get round this? any thoughts?
is there anyway of making the popup appear to be from RW.exe?

Any thoughts and ideas very much appreciated.

Can you help me figure out what to do about popups? Sometimes we develop web applications where popups make very good sense for precisely the same reasons they make sense in traditional locally-installed application interfaces. Using : ASP.NET 2.0, IE 7. This is a strange problem with popups not working in IE to remote sites, even though popups are allowed in IE. To reproduce, create web site with two pages, Default.aspx and Default2.aspx. Note that the example is a deliberately simplified example - just used to reproduce the problem, and not meant to be very...

I am using the ajax modal popup. The panel I am popping up has a lot css formatting to give it things like drop shadows rounded edges. This formatting will be used on all the popups. Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows.
