Sorry I am new to the Setup environment provided by Studio Whenever I
run the installer I get the following message:

Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of
this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing
version of this product use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

I have an application that runs in the system tray (taskbar notification area) and it runs at startup. Occasionally I need to release a new version. I have created a deployment project in .Net. With the MSI it detects whether a current version is installed and requests that the user uninstalls it prior to installing the new version. Also, MSI detects a running instance of the application during the uninstall and requests that it be closed...

Is it possible to rollback an uninstallation from uninstall custom action based on some user input. or any suggestions on how to do this. If the user has an earlier version of the product and they are installing a new version, ask them if they want to keep the earlier version or not. If they want to remove the earlier version remove it and install the new version and if they dont want to remove it simply install the new version. I am...

We have developed an application that will replace the older version. The older versions comes in two flavors, a Lite and a Pro version. I can successfully remove the previous version of either the Lite or the Pro version by sync'ing the "Product Code" and increasing the version number of the new setup, but I really need to remove both versions upon a successful installation. So I have added two custom actions under "Commit" and I have...

We are about to deploy a new version of our application re-written in .Net. Our .Net app is using the installer included with VS.Net 2003. The previous version of the application was deployed using InstallShield. Is it possible, using a Custom Action, to call the previous apps uninstall routine? If not, help on how to uninstall the previous version while still using the .Net installer would be appreciated.

I am developing a Windows application using VS2005 Pro (VB). The solution includes a setup project. I sent the setup files to a tester and he installed and used the program successfully. I then sent him a new install package with some updates but after he did the uninstall via Add/Remove Programs and then runs the new install package it complains that the program is already installed? How can I completely uninstall the previous version. ...

I am getting an error message when launching VS2003. It says "MS Development Environment has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application." I used "Add/Remove Application" first trying to reinstall it, but an InstallShield message box showed up saying "Command line parameteres: /L language ID, /S Hide...." etc. When I click OK then nothing happened. Then I ran the setup from my original...

Hello, I'm having some problems installing Visual Studio 2005. I'll briefly explain what's the history of the problem here. First I installed VS 2005 beta 2. I uninstalled it later via the Windows Uninstall Tool you can download. Then I installed Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition ENU. This was a trial version for 180 days.

I finally figured out how set up my VS deployment project to remove a previous version (I was not setting the productdoe or version number). While I have been testing, I notice that if I choose to uninstall entirely, the new version, all files remain behind though the desk top icon is removed. The difference between my previous MSI and and my current MSI is that I changed the "Remove Previous Version" property = true I changed the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
