Catching java exceptions

I have a dot net web service that consumes a number of other web
services, one of which is in java. Is there anything special I need to
do to catch the exceptions that this service generates?

Provided it follows the SOAP specifications, it should return SOAP Fault
elements just like any other webservice. If it has documentation or WSDL you
can examine that to see if there are any special considerations.

Is the Java web service managed? If not then a global exception using
Exception class should be used.

IIRC, it will generate a SoapException with the name and message of the
Java exception embedded in it. In other words, not that different from
any other webservice generating an exception. Don't forget that the bit
of .NET which is talking to the server doesn't know whether it's
talking to a Java webservice or a .NET one or something entirely
different, so differences should be few.

I am handling exceptions currently using try, except. Generally I don't handle specific exceptions and am catching all. Then if an exception occurs, I would like to capture that error string. FxCop complains every time I catch System.Exception. I don't see the value in trying to catch every possible exception type (or even figuring out what exceptions can be caught) by a given block of code, when System.Exception seems to get the job done for me.
