2.0 ConfigurationMa nager vs. WebConfiguratio nManager

I'm starting out in .Net 2.0, try to take some concepts I developed in
1.1 with me.

I have a class library which is to be used in both Web and Windows
applications, and much to my dismay, I discovered there are two
different classes for reading the configuration file.

I've seen some suggestions that I can look at the process I'm running
under to determine which one to use, but that seems like a nasty hack.
Does anyone have any other ideas to ensure that my library can get its
settings regardless of what type of application it is running for? Has
MS said anything about this?

In a related question, the AppSettings property says that it reads its
settings from the 'default configuration section' for the application.
Is there a way to change which section is the default? I'd like to
use multiple sections to store settings so that during my installation
process i can just switch to the section that stores production
settings, for example.

Hi, I try to read a value from app.config file using this code: string s=System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.ToString(); I got the compiler error: Error 1 The type or namespace name 'ConfigurationManager' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Configuration' (are you missing an assembly reference?) .

Hello everybody, you can use ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Set method (ConfigurationManager is in System.Web.Configuration namespace) to store a modified value from web.config. To be practical, you define a custom key in web.config: <appSettings> <add key="ReportButtonClick" value="0" /> </appSettings>

I have created a ConfigurationSection class in VB.NET. I tested my class using a windows application. Now I need to move it into my ASP.NET project. I get an error stating that I need to specify the exePath. In the windows application I was using the ConfigurationLevel.None. I tried setting the path to the website (System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory) but I have had no success. What configurations do I need to make this work?...

I am trying to read the appsettings section of a configuration file using the ConfigurationManager object (ASP.NET application) with the following three lines but for some reason the ConfigurationManager does not recognize there is an appSettings section in the file and the last line throws an exception. It opens successfully but the collection is empty. Any thoughts as to why? Configuration configFile =

I have a solution with two projects. Project A is the startup project, while Project B serves as the project with the data logic. At run time, the first thing I need to do is write to Project B's app.config. I've referenced System.configuration.dll within Project B, and from one of the classes inside Project B's namespace, I'm trying to use ConfigurationManager to write to its app.config. Unfortunately, it only finds Project A's...

Is it possible for a medium trust web application to read the Membership providers? The following throws a SecurityException: MembershipSection membershipSection = (MembershipSection)WebConfigurationManager.GetSection("system.web/membership"); I have custom sections in my web.config where I specify requirePermission="false", which allows them to be read in medium trust, but it does not seem possible to do this for the membership...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
