Advice on buying 2005

What do I need ?
I am currenly making cutom controls for my future programs, I expect to use
Win32 API, Accessability and GDI+ quite a lot. Eventual I will have to make
a website and try to sell my programs.

Will 2005 Standard do, or do I need 2005 Prof.

Upgrade
I have 2003 Academic boxed, and 2002 Architect from MSDN, it is however my
former boss who had the MSDN subscription.

Can either of these be upgraded to 2005 Professinol ?

TIA

AFIK you are S.O.L as the versions you have are not upgradeable to you.
Go grab Visual Studio 2005 Express to get started and buy up to VS2005 Pro
after they release the VS2005 service pack which hopefully will repair all
the bugs.

I have to agree.
Get the free Express version to trial the software, but don't buy 2005
pro yet.
I wish I had waited before I started using it. There's a few threads in
this group about people's experiences with upgrading.
You should read some of those.

Perhaps you can upgrade your 2002 licences to 2003? 2003 is still more
than worthy of your attention and will definately get you up and
running.
2005 has a few new things and I wouldn't put your new company's success
at risk by getting the current version of 2005.

Just my opinion though, you understand...

So are you going to make different versions of the card game solitaire?
Make sure you release Clock Solitaire... it seems to be missing in my
install of XP Pro.

Thank you very much
And Steven I will look into clock solitare.

You have ordered one item and placed it into your cart. Let's say you ordered one small black t-shirt. Your cart will have the product_id, color_id and size_id for the small black t-shirt. The quantity of this item is, let's say 30. You have one in your cart, so how many are available: 1) 29 2) 30 Now let's say that while I ordered one small black t-shirt, Sven ordered 1 small black t-shirt, Anders ordered one black t-shirt, and...

Hi all, First of all, why I don't usually get a response for the questions I place in this newsgroup? It's like as if it's not enough that vb.net is way different than regular vb, but also developers who are trying their very best to update their knowledge to vb.net don't get enough support. I bought books, I'm trying to learn more about this .net thing, but people like me who are still in "the knowledge update stage" need more help. Are...

Hi, I need to create an application in C# that will be fairly simple from a UI prospective and that will be able to retrieve some information from a db. The overall look and feel should be nice but not too sophisticated. There are two areas that will need to shine though: first a datagrid which needs to be very nice looking and flexible (editable almost like an excel spreadsheet), and second a report that will need to be cool looking as...

Hi - sorry if this is not the best place to post, but need advice and would appreciate some thoughts. I inherited a boxed set MCAD self-study course which I am about to launch into. The course is based on VB.NET. I have never programmed in VB or C#, but have worked with some Java derivatives before (Actionscript mainly). Box includes exam vouchers. I was talking to a C# developer today, he's been doing this about 2 years. He said that I...

Hi. I am under the understanding that having the sql server 2005 db is not enough (like 2000 was) to debug stored procedures.. that I need to purchase (costly) visual studio 2005. Can someone suggest a free or lower cost alternative? sorry to be so cheap.. its the times I think.

Greetings, My group has an SDK that was developed 5 years ago with VC++ 6. Over the last years, the requests for a VS.NET SDK has reached critical mass and I am now in the process of doing that. Actually, the first release of this 'port' is be a simple rebuild of the unmanaged C++ SDK in VS.NET. I have done this part already, using VS.NET 2003.

Apart from buying BoundsChecker or any of the other tools to track down memory leaks. Does anyone have any advice or tips from your years of programming experience to offer on how to track down the causes of memory leaks? I find that the big dump that happens at the end of a program does not typically lend any useful clues as to where or what was allocated that was not freed. I find that I have to back track and comment out sections of code...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
