Setting up a webserver

How do I configure my WIN2003 SBS server to allow me to use it to develop
WebServices?

I am trying to use VS Enterprise Developer version 2003. on my Win2K box and
create projects on my 2003 server.

I keep getting an error trying to save the project on the server.

Yes, IIS is installed and in fact the server is a webserver already.
I want to make an internal domain name (like
http://testing.mywebserver.com/) where I can try out my webservices before
sending the out to the real world.

so - there's NO documentation about how to do this? How does one go about
figuring out how to set up a webserver for development?

Not sure if this is really the right group, but I'll try to help...

Do you want to develop your web service locally, then upload it to your
web server?
As long as you have IIS installed on your server, treat the web service
like any other web site.
Set it up with a virtual path and so on.

As for creating a project on your local box that is actually running on
your web server, I had a problem getting this to work under VS2005 but
didn't really invest a lot of time in fixing it. I guess just make sure
all your permissions are correct.
I think your local VS accounts would need access to the folder on the
target machine to be able to compile (I could be wrong).

Hi All, I would like to setup my site so that when a page is request that does not exist, transfer is instead passed to a certain page that I specify. For instance, if the user requests http://mysite.com/pages/contact and that is not a valid page or directory, then the request is handed to http://mysite.com/pages/display.php or something like that. I am wondering what the best way to do this is - I know that I could use an ..htaccess...

What is the proper method for setting up visual studio 2003 to store and run solutions on a windoes 2003 webserver? Using vstudio enterprise on a WinXP client. Major issue is that SafeSource says it can't check out .aspx items. Any docs on how to configure this? I guess it would be the same for deploying a solution to win2003 Server.

Hi all, I would like to ask for some help regarding separating the asp.net webserver and the sql server. I have created an asp.net application for a certain company. Initially, we installed both the iis and sql server in a single machine. Not too long ago, the machine had some hardware problems, and management has decided to purchase new servers, for both asp.net and sql server.

I have an interesting problem...and its one of those where I know what I want but don't know how to ask it =) I have an eCommerce application that uses Paypal for its payment gateway. This used to work... I have several web site "projects" configured in my VS 2005 solution, all of which used to be configured to run in IIS on my PC (vs. the built-in webserver in Whidbey). Somehow they got set back to "Use default Web server." If I change them back to use a custom server and enter the URL for each web app, everything is fine -- until I reopen the solution. Then they're all set back to "Use default Web server." I've...

Good morning everybody I have a question regarding configuring mappings in the development webserver. I am currently implementing a proxy server that is lied between the clients and a customer's webapplication. This proxy is responsible for security aspects (authentication/authorization) that is not handled by the webapplication itself. For that I created a class that implements IHttpHandler and registered it in the webproject's...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
