Microsoft has published a complete section on how to view active directory
components. It ships with the online documentation in MSVS2003. Use the
help to do a search for...

active directory objects

and filter on c#

it includes sample code so this should be a start for you...

Try the help under...

Searching Active Directory Hierarchies...

You should be able to use the DirectorySearch er class to search any valid
path for nodes.

Beyond this I can't find anything...sorr y about that.

You can't use AD for this. The AD is a repository, it contains the static
state of the objects, but it does not contain the dynamic state of each of
it's objects.

Search AD then ping them. Afraid you cannot know whether a machine is
online unless you ping it.

In .NET 2.0, you should be able to use Ping class.
In older versions, see http://www.eggheadcafe.com/articles/20020209.asp
and http://www.codeproject.com/dotnet/CSharpPing.asp.

Even if you "ping" them there is no guarantee you can reach them, if routers
are configured to drop ICMP ping request packets you are screwed, the same
applies to intermediate firewalls.

I'm hoping for something less than 5 seconds per host. *** Sent via...

Reason for such need (at...

Beside that, I also look for the solution that can...
