Convert a currency string to a double

Hi All,

I'm am looking to convert a currency string (e.g. "$1,234.56" to a
double value).

It appears this will work:

double val = Convert.ToDoubl e(Double.Parse* ("$123,456.7890 1",
System.Globaliz ation.NumberSty *les.Currency)) ;

My question is, why doesn't this appear to work (which was my inital
attempt at solving this problem):

double iPurchasePrice = Convert.ToDoubl e(PurchasePrice ,
NumberFormatInf o.CurrentInfo);

It results in the exception:

System.FormatEx ception: Input string was not in a correct format.

It appears to be choking on the "$" symbol. When I remove that it
works. I tried creating my own NumberFormatInf o supplying all of the
Currency related properties including CurrencySymbol, but it still
appears to have problems with the "$" sign.

Anyone know why this might be? Again, the Parse method works fine, I'm
just more curious if anyone had any further insight.

Thanks,
John

How do you parse a currency string to a decimal? I'd like to avoid having to parse the number out, removing the $ manually. That sounds like a hack. There are times that this string will be currency and others when it will be a text integer or decimal. //This bombs because of the string having an improper format. Decimal.Parse("$9,200.00") Thanks in advance! Mark

Hi, Run this code will cause format exception. I think the problem is induced by using System.Globalization.NumberStyles.Currency since I used customed currency symbol("My Dollar:"). Please tell me how to modify this block of code.Thanks Console.WriteLine ( NumberValue.ToString ( formatString , n ) ); NumberFormatInfo numberFormatInfo = new System.Globalization.NumberFormatInfo();

Hi guys, In my DataGrid I have a column that displays decimal values as currency ( I set the Data Formatting expression of that column to {0:C}). So the actual string displayed in the grid looks like $2,295.99. For each row I need to do some additional calculations based on this value, so I need to convert it back to decimal type. But I cannot find a way to get rid of the currency formatting and revert the value back to decimal. I tried...

I am writing a program where the user inputs currency in US dollars. I want the program to only accept valid currency input, converting the string into the proper type of variable (double?), and to make sure there are no illegal characters entered so that it doesn't make an error. I basically want it to strip out any characters that aren't numbers, in case the user enters something like "$34.23". So far, in my hours of research today I...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
