Deploying Windows Service on XP with C#

I have been charged with bottstrapping myself on C# and Windows services at the same time. I have created a Windows Service not a WebService and I am trying to deploy it. I followed the instructions given in the help with creating a project & process installer in the project and then creating a setup project. I am able to link them and build the setup. However, I am unsure how to get the setup project to create the service in the registry and then get the services dialog to recognize it. Right now nothing is put in the registry from the setup, however it copies the files over and all those basic setup functions

What do I need to do special for a service installation?

Hi I am deploying a winforms app via the windows installer and a VS.Net 2003 setup and deploymnet project. At the moment, I am adding launch conditions for the .Net Framework 1.1 and MDAC 2.7 or higher, and am prompting the user to run the relevant setup files if they're missing. I'm including these setup files on the CD. I can't work out from the Data Access downloads page, which MDAC file I need

Hi all. I've created a web service that runs fine on my development PC running W2K. The service is consumed by an ASPX page. (written using vb.net). I can deploy the webservice without any issues to another W2K production server and discover the service from the rebuilt ASPX application (now referencing the production version). The issue I'm having is that when I deploy to a Windows Server 2003 environment it doesnt seem to want to work...

Hope somebody can help. I have a web service written in vb.net which works fine localling on my Windows XP Pro development machine without a problem. I have deployed in onto a Windows Server 2003 machine - by copying the whole project onto the server, and creating a virtual directory in IIS to point to it. On the Windows Server console I can see that the web service exists by "browsing" to the .asmx file locally and getting the...

Hi there: I'm a veteran to ASP.NET 1.1, but new to 2.0, and I'm using VS 2005. When I run the app on my local machine, using the built-in Web server, I have no problems, but deploying the site to a 2003 Server machine (which is also running several 1.1 sites) throws a persistent 404. I've looked around and found several references to the app_offline file, for which I've searched exhaustively and found nothing. I'm essentially running...

I have created simple windows service which just write message to event log when it starts and stops. I am able to install it succesfully using: installutil <service_file.exe>, where <service_file.exeis the executable of the service. (Thanks to Rohan). But I want to install it using VS 2005 Setup project and I am unable to do that. I have created a Solution in VS 2005 with 2 simple projects.

I try deploying a very simple (very simple indeed) Vb.net application by following the basic steps according to some tutorials. My pc runs Visual Studio 2005 and it reports "Build successful" but I build my application. Then I run setup.exe from the debug folder on the same machine that develops this application, it went through all early steps but when coming to the appeared-to-be last step, it gave out the following error message: ...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
