OpenFileDialog and File Explorer

the dotnet OpenFileDialog brings up a window that looks
similar to a File Explorer window, and indeed depending
on some user settings may list files in a details view,
thumbnails view etc.

Is there some property to set so that this may be done by
my app rather than depending on whatever state the user
left? for instance, can i force OpenFileDialog to give
the user thumbnails when the dialog is shown? a similar
question would be how to control the list of folders that
appear on the bar on the left of the dialog when it is
shown.

Thanks in advance.

has anyone experienced problems with interactions between OpenFileDialog and FileStream? When I select "open" from an OpenFileDialog the subsequent calls to FileStream do not create a file. If I do anything else, eg, navigate to other folders, and then press "cancel" the file is created. This occurrs just with the simple code below. Any ideas private void button1_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e // open the common dialog bo...

Everything I've read so far states you can't inherit or extend these dialogs because they're "sealed". I considered building my own custom control, but I haven't been able to find: 1) How to add a "Places Bar" to a form 2) How to hook a Combo Box into System locations like the existing OpenFileDialog / SaveFileDialog offer (ie. "My Recent Documents", "Desktop", etc.)

I'm trying to be able to select a combination of files and folders. When I try to use the OpenFileDialog it will allow me to select them but when I press the Open button it only informs me of the files I chose not the folders as well? Am I missing something? I know Microsoft can determine the folders that are selected because if you do this with the Explorer file open it will bring up windows with the contents of the folders you selected...

I am having a weird problem and I have can't figure out why it is happening. I create an OpenFileDialog and set a filename filter. When the dialog first opens, the filter works correctly, and only the files I want to see appear in the file list box. When I change the filter to one of the other filters, all the files in the list disappear. If I then manually type a filter into the "Filename" textbox, then the files appear and the filter...

OpenFileDialog appears to be "holding onto" the parent folder of a selected file until the application using the dialog quits. After creating a folder containing a file, I attempted to select that file with an OpenFileDialog. I used the following code to create the dialog: Dim a As New OpenFileDialog a.ShowDialog() a.Dispose()

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
