Why does the .exe get called and processes, but doesn't perform as it should?

I have an executable that on Windows 2003, when called it sends a print job to a printer and works as should. From an aspx page, we call the exe and watch it open in the processes and exit (Application.Exit()). However, it does not send the print job. Any ideas or how would I debug this?
