ASP.net and SQL server 2008 help....

crystal2005
Hi, i'm new to asp.net. So forgive me if i'm asking silly question.
My task is to create an admin login form, in which i have stucked for many days thinking how to do it. Could someone tell me a good article how to create login form which the data is stored in SQL Server. In this case i need to use C# 3.0 and SQL server 2008.

Don't tell me just GOOGLE it, if only i could fine any, i won't get help from here.

Can it be done by drag and drop?? as i have seen my lecturer could have done this by drag and drop within minutes during the lecture.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You probably aren't googling the correct key words...

You're pretty much asking us to google it for you just because your research isn't turning up what your instructor showed you in class. How fair is that?

Anyways, the keywords you're going to want to research (google) are ASP.NET Authentication, Forms Authentication, Membership, and Role Management.

One of the best places to start researching is the MSDN Library. This contains information on all of the .NET controls and concepts. It contains many walk-throughs and examples. I always recommend bookmarking this site and using it as your primary resource when developing .NET applications.

Because I'm in an exceptionally helpful mood (and despite the fact that it feels like an insult for you to pretty much ask the experts here to google your question for you) here are some helpful links (that I found using the MSDN Library and google):

I'd recommend researching the key words I mentioned above...

I also recommend that you open Visual Studio (an ASP.NET application), open the ToolBox and use the MSDN Library (or google) to research the controls that you find under the Login section. (Especially the CreateUserWizard Control)

Good luck,

-Frinny

P.S. Taking notes in class is always a good idea ;)
Even if you just jot down the key words talked about during the presentation.

Generally, if you explain that you have already tried Googling for an answer and failed to find adequate assistance, you will find a more sympathetic response than trying to dictate how someone should be helping you.

I suspect this was a simple misuse of language, but please try to remember when posting your requests for help in future.

The video is a great help....but remember that the presenter's project was pre-setup. This means that they've already generated the database used in the presentation. You'll have to do a bit of research but there is a tool out there that will automatically do this for you (I can't remember but I think it comes with Visual Studio...or maybe it's in the Framework itself). It'll probably take you a few hours of pre-configuration/setup work to do what they did in a few minutes in the video.

Please note that you need to turn off any anti-virus software if you run the script that creates the default MSSql database/tables used for Membership/Role management...if you don't it may prevent the script from running (I know Norton Anti-virus does this from past experience).

If you have any problems implementing the solution feel free to ask for help :)
