Publishing production versions of ASP.NET 2.0 web applications

Hi,

First of all - sorry for this question but there's a load of confusing
stuff online. This is really just a clarification.

When 'Publish'ing the production version of an ASP.NET 2.0 web
application in VS2005, do I need to select:
1. Release configuration in Configuration Manager
2. debug='false' in web.config
3. Both the above.
4. None of the above.

I realise that I need to set debug='false' in web.config at some
point, but do I need it set during the Publish operation or can I just
do it afterwards on the production server? The reason I ask is that
doing it for the Publish requires the web.config to be checked out
which is just a pain in the arse as it just gets undone straight
afterwards.

Also I've heard various stuff about Publish always using Release
configuration, but not sure if this means that I don't need to change
Configuration Manager from Debug to Release before 'Publish'ing?

Please note I'm talking about ASP.NET Web Applications, not ASP.NET
Web Sites...

Cheers,

James

you should download the web deployment project support for your version of
visual studio. this has support for overriding web.config setting, and will
build a deployment site.

Thanks. I've had a look at that. And I'll probably use that for my own
projects.

But can someone answer the original question please?

Cheers,

James
