resource sharing between web applications?

I need to share resources between web applications in the same solution. The
resources are things like themes, master pages, config file sections like
connection strings, databases (especially the one used by asp.net
configuration tool). Is there any way to do this? and if so, is there a step
by step tutorial/guide on how? I am making a website and dividing it up
between different web application projects to make it easier to deal with.
