Master Pages - VS Design View

Is there any way to get rid of those labels like 'Content Placeholder -
xxxx' etc.

What appears in design view has very little resemblence to what is
actually rendered and these labels plonk themselves over the
placeholders so that I can't enter anything at that spot. I can only add
stuff in code view.
