ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider account lock out

Hi guys

I have a web app that uses the ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider and
although this ms page (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998360.aspx
under 'Account Lockout') states that if a user enters an incorrect password
'x' times in 'x' minutes their account will be locked in terms of this
application, but it will not be locked in active directory.

Unfortunately, when my users enter incorrect passwords 'x' times in 'x'
minutes it is their active directory account that is locked.

Has anyone else experienced this and overcome it?

many thanks in advance
XOR
