Lowered version of columns in Asp.Net membership.

I've found several columns like:
LoweredUserName
LoweredEmail
etc

Why are this column needed?

"lowered" means "in lower case". I don't know the exact reason but I suspect
it is to speed up comparisons. Usually when you want to compare strings you
first perform a lower-case conversion on each.
