Deploying Crystal

This is really a licence question....

I want to deploy the version of Crystal Reports that comes with Visual
Studio 2005 to a production server. Is there another license charge if the
I'm licensed on the production server to run Visual Studio?

Hi Gary,

For the cryustal report component integrated with Visual Studio IDE, based
on my understanding, for thick-client/desktop based application, you have a
free limited license for you to deploy crystal report runtime with your
desktop applciation developed with Visual studio. For crystal report
server-side component, it may have some limitation(based on concorrent
requests). Here is a knowledge base article that describe the license cases:

#Pricing and licensing for Crystal Reports in Visual Studio .NET or in
Visual Studio 2005
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318102/en-us

If you have any more specific scenario or requirement, you can also contact
the BO for support:

#Licensing and support for Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET and for
Visual Studio 2005
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317789/en-us

Hope this helps.

Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues
where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support
Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow
up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support
professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the
most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations
that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex
project analysis and dump analysis issues. Issues of this nature are best
handled working with a dedicated Microsoft Support Engineer by contacting

Steven,
Thanks. The link says that I am allowed to deploy Crystal with my ASP.Net
application. I guess this is now a technical question as the "Publish"
option in build doesn't deploy the necessary Crystal dlls. Maybe a
deployment project will do that.

Thanks for the reply Gary,

Yes, for ASP.NET application, you can also deploy the crystal report
component directly, the only difference is that the requests count to the
server(for crystal report processing) is limited.
