Master page & treeview opp AJAX ?

Ciao a tutti

ho una master page costituita da due sezioni, a sinistra carico ondemand un
asp.net treeview impostando programmaticamente la proprietà NavigateUrl, a
destra carico le content page legate ai nodi del treeview.
Il problema è che quando richiamo una content page clicando sul nodo del
treevieew, il treeview, giustamente, non mantiene lo stato.

Tra le varie soluzioni che mi vengono in mente ci sarebbero :
1) memorizzare in un oggetto session la profondita del treeview, quindi
ricaricare il nodo selezionato.
Dubbio : ricaricare un nodo esplorando i livelli non mi sembra una
soluzione ottimale in quanto l'albero potrebbe essere molto profondo
2) caricare la pagina content in un IFrame
Dubbio : è possibile passare dei parametri in querystring tramite IFrame
? E' possibile modificare a runtime la proprietà src dopo aver
impostato runat="server" al controllo ?
3) Con AJAX la cosa è fattibile ??
