Complex object Serialisation

I have a type that is something like this

public class MyType
{
private MyType( string pName ) { mName = pName; }

private string mName;

public static readonly MyType Type1 = new MyType( "Type1" );
public static readonly MyType Type2 = new MyType( "Type2" );
}

I then have a class which I would like to put into view state which has a
member of this type. I have marked both types as serializable but to no
avail.

Is there a way to do this, maybe using the IObjectReference?
